Born in the U.K. is a period piece, an effort to evoke the writer/performer's growing up years in 70s and 80s Britain. There's a lush quality to many of the tracks that reminds me of the Broadway version of The Who's Tommy, especially the Up With People cultish sound of Welcome to the Overground. But somehow he survived the experience. And so, I can only hope, did you. |
